Fronza will continue as CEO until retirement in summer 2011 ELMHURST – Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare is pleased to announce that W. Peter Daniels will be joining the health system on September 1 as President of Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare and Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. Daniels has more than 25 years of hospital and healthcare leadership experience, and is currently the president of Ocean Medical Center, a 321bed hospital that is part of Meridian Health, a fivehospital system located in New Jersey. Daniels is joining Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare following the October 2009 announcement from Leo Fronza of his intent ion to retire in the summer of 2011. Fronza has 32 years of service to Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare and has been president and Chief Executive Officer since 1992. He will continue to serve as Chief Executive Officer until the summer of 2011. “Mr. Fronza has placed us on a path to a vital and exciting future with the construction of our new integrated healthcare campus that is set to open in June 2011,” said Robert Soukup, chairman of the Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare Board of Trustees. “We are pleased to welcome Mr. Daniels to the organization and begin a seamless leadership transit ion process that will prepare him to [operate] the new facility and effectively lead Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare into the future.” Since joining Meridian in 2002, Daniels and his team have expanded facilities, implemented new technologies, enhanced services, and improved patient and employee satisfaction. Meridian Health was the first healthcare organization in the nation to achieve the prestigious Magnet designation for its nursing staff at each of its partner hospitals and has been named as one of the "Top Ten ‘Best Places to Work in New Jersey." This year, Meridian Health was named to the Fortune 100 list of Best Companies to Work For. Daniels started his career in healthcare at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, N.Y., and went on to become senior vice president for Operations at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in Bronx, N.Y. He also served as CEO at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, N.Y., and president and CEO at Southampton Hospital in Southampton, N.Y. In 2006, Daniels earned the distinction of board certification in healthcare management as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). |
