Over two dozen Lombard Police Department personnel spent part of Friday morning, Aug. 19, volunteering for Cop on a Rooftop at several Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants to raise money for Special Olympics Illinois. Besides participating at the Yorktown (shared with the Oak Brook Police Department) and North Avenue locations, other Lombard police personnel were posted here at 1160 S. Main St. Fundraiser event Co-coordinator Lt. Jim Kohl (far right) said that the department raised $9,373. “We beat the pre-COVID-19 record…the most we’ve ever raised at the Cop on a Rooftop event,” he said, adding that the pre-pandemic record was $9,100 in 2018. Kohl. This is the 19th anniversary of the partnership between Dunkin’ Donuts and the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois. Last year, nearly $870,000 was raised across 283 locations, according to Special Olympics Illinois. Lombard has participated in Cop on a Rooftop since 2006, according to Kohl.
