The Intelligentsia Cup is a 10-day series of cycling races in the Chicago area. This year’s Intelligentsia Cup took place from July 22-31. The fifth stage of the series—the Lombard Cycling Classic—took place in downtown Lombard on July 26. The event in the Lilac Village featured several races on a course with a start/finish line on St. Charles Road at Park Avenue. One lap on the course covered about seven tenths of a mile. The Lombard Cycling Classic’s races featured numerous laps around the course. The photo shows the end of the 75-minute women’s professional race. Marlies Mejias Garcia is pictured raising her arms as she crossed the finish line to win the race. A family fun ride, which gave cyclists of all ages an opportunity to ride on the course, took place after the women’s pro race. The day of racing then concluded with the 75-minute men’s pro race.
