Nurses meet ‘Moxi the robot’ Pictured are two nurses from Edward-Elmhurst Health getting acquainted with Moxi the robot, the latest addition to the staff at both Edward and Elmhurst hospitals. Moxi can assist nurses in obtaining and delivering supplies to the floors, allowing nurses to focus more on patients rather than errands and deliveries.

Edward-Elmhurst Health has acquired Moxi the robot to assist nurses in obtaining and delivering supplies to the floors, which will be a real time-saver for the nurses. Moxi the robot will give time back for patient care and help nurses focus on patients by helping to take care of deliveries.

Diligent Robotics is the company that EEH is working with on this robot project. There are two robots at Edward Hospital and two at Elmhurst Hospital. Edward and Elmhurst Hospitals are the first hospitals in the Chicago area to have Moxi and first to go live in the Midwest.

More facts about Moxi

•   Moxi went live at Elmhurst Hospital on June 2. Moxi will be live at Edward Hospital later in June.

•   Moxi can access any floor except Mother/Baby and the NICU due to the secure nature of these units.

•   Moxi is available 24/7.

•   Moxi can go about 6-8 hours before needing to charge.

•   Kiosks where nurses or clinicians can call Moxi for a delivery will be located at nursing stations, lab and pharmacy areas.

•   Moxi charging stations will be located in heavier traffic areas like the lab and tucked away in alcoves. They need about five of these at the hospital and are still working on finalizing the installation of these.

Its goal is to develop a novel and alternative care delivery model to effectively support the front-line care team, improve efficiency, give back time for direct patient care and allow for nurses to practice at the top of their license by augmenting our workforce with artificially intelligent robots.

An estimated total of 716+ potential deliveries per day are currently being hand-delivered. Assuming about 15 minutes per task, this would amount to a potential 5,370 hours of time returned to the Care Team per month. It is estimated Moxi could perform about 200 tasks and-or deliveries each day.
