Willowbrook’s girls basketball team opened its 2021-22 season with three straight victories. The Warriors began their season with a 65-29 home win over Bartlett on Nov. 16. On Friday, Nov. 19, the Warriors played their first game in their own five-team, round-robin Thanksgiving invitational. Willowbrook beat Montini 64-55 in a battle between area schools. Sophomore Elle Bruschuk (No. 33) of the Warriors is pictured while firing and making a 3-point shot early in the fourth quarter. Bruschuk’s basket gave Willowbrook a 57-45 lead. In addition to scoring four points during the Warriors’ win over Montini, Bruschuk provided a team-leading 12 rebounds. The Warriors moved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the invitational following Saturday’s 70-54 win over Plainfield East. Bruschuk and some of her teammates on the Warriors’ girls basketball team played on the Willowbrook girls volleyball team, which recently finished its 2021 fall season with a 37-2 record. The Warriors won the West Suburban Gold Conference title during the regular season. They went on two win four post-season matches, claiming the program’s first regional and sectional titles before losing an IHSA Class 4A super-sectional battle against Mother McAuley.
