Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

Assault, battery

Nov. 15

Police said officers responded to Elmhurst Hospital for the report of a battery to a public safety officer and a nurse. A victim told police that as he attempted to restrain the combative suspect, the suspect punched him in the face. The officer observed a laceration to the victim’s chin and redness and swelling to the victim’s face. Charges are pending.

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct

Nov. 14

Police said that subsequent to multiple 911 hang-up calls, a victim was located in a room at a hotel in the 300 block of N. Route 83 at 3:19 a.m., a victim related a suspect grabbed her, put his hand over her mouth, and slapped her in the face. The suspect also interfered with the victim’s attempts to call 911. The suspect was placed under arrest. He was charged with domestic battery, unlawful restraint and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

Police said officers responded to the report of a domestic battery at 11:01 a.m. The complainant told police the suspect kicked her after being asked to complete a chore. There were no signs of injury and the complainant declined medical attention.

Nov. 12

A 22-year-old Addison man was charged with two counts of domestic battery and resisting a police officer near North and Oak at 4:29 p.m.

Nov. 11

Police said officers responded to the 600 block of S. York at 8:37 a.m. for the report of a domestic disturbance. The reporting officer met with the complainant who reported her daughter was breaking items in the residence. The situation was calm and the suspect agreed to leave the apartment.

DUI, transportation of open alcohol

Nov. 14

Jacqueline Macias, 47, of Chicago, was charged with two counts of DUI with a child passenger, illegal transportation of alcohol and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near Indiana and North at 2:25 a.m.

Nov. 13

Gustavo Huizar Guzman, 27, of Arlington Heights, was charged with DUI, speeding and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and I-290 at 2:01 a.m.

James Van Petten, 45, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, speeding and disobeying a stop sign subsequent to a traffic stop near Park and Huntington at 12:47 a.m.

Michael T. Rosario, 36, of Villa Park, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage, failure to signal, no front plate registration, possession of cannabis in a vehicle and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Villa and North at 4:05 a.m.

Harassment, threats

Nov. 10

Police said a reporting officer in the 700 block of N. York met with the victim at 10:14 a.m. who stated he met an unknown female on a dating platform and exchanged explicit photos. The unknown suspect then stated the photos would be sent to the victim’s friends and family if he does not send money. The victim purchased gift cards and provided the numbers to the suspect.

Nov. 7-Nov. 10

A complainant in the 700 block of Cambridge told police that she has received several unwanted messages from a suspect between the above dates and would like the suspect to cease all communication. An investigation is pending.

Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance

Nov. 14

Police said officers responded for the report of a retail theft that just occurred at a store in the 100 block of W. North at 4:18 a.m. The alleged suspects were located inside of their vehicle and eight bottles of alcohol were recovered, according to police. Darryl S. Fleming, 52, of Berwyn, was found to be in possession of crack cocaine, police said. Fleming was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and retail theft. Jemar Burt, 33, of Chicago, was charged with retail theft.

Dery E. Cathey, 25, of Elmhurst, was charged with was charged with no valid registration and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Pick at 10:49 a.m.

Nov. 13

Anita L. Henry, 25, of Maywood, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis in a vehicle in the 300 block of N. Route 83 at 11:56 p.m.

Nov. 12

Gisell Cabral, 20, of Villa Park, was issued citations for possession of adult use cannabis in a vehicle subsequent to a traffic stop near Villa and Thomas at 11:06 a.m.

Travon Jones, 21, of Chicago, was issued citations for unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver, no valid driver’s license and improper lighting subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Indiana at 11:58 p.m.

Anthony Knight, 47, of Berkeley, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance in the 1000 block of S. York at 2:05 p.m. Police said Knight was found to be in possession of fentanyl.

Theft or burglary/identity theft/fraud/forgery/deceptive practice/obstruction/robbery

Nov. 16

Theft by deception was reported in the 100 block of Prospect at 10:11 p.m. A victim told police that she received a message on her social media account inquiring if she would like to make money by using a money service application. The victim provided an unknown suspect with her driver’s license information, access to her social media accounts, and sent funds as a processing fee.

Identity theft was reported in the 300 block of Elm at 11:32 a.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect used his personal information to re-open his closed PayPal account. The account showed recent activity. The victim contacted PayPal and the account was permanently closed. The victim did not sustain any financial loss.

Oct. 4-Nov. 16

Attempted identity theft was reported in the 300 block of S. Route 83. A victim told police that an unknown suspect used her personal information in an attempt to open a Wells Fargo bank account in the victim’s name. The application was denied by Wells Fargo due to insufficient identification. An account was not opened and the victim has no dollar loss.

Sept. 1-Nov. 16

Theft by deception was reported in the 300 block of N. York. A complainant related that an unknown suspect used his business information to send fraudulent invoices to customers between the above dates. As of this date, the agent knows of one customer who sent money to the suspect.

Nov. 12

Identity theft was reported in the 900 block of Prospect at 12:02 p.m. Police said a victim was notified of several fraudulent withdrawals from her bank account. The victim stated her wallet went missing last month but did not notice any fraudulent activity on her accounts at that time.

Nov. 11

Alexander Sotiroupoulos, 48, of Wood Dale, was charged with retail theft and burglary at a pharmacy in the 100 block of W. North at 12:03 a.m. Police said the suspect was observed leaving the final point of sale with a cart of unpaid merchandise.

Theft and deceptive practice were reported at a store in the 200 block of S. Route 83 at 12:06 p.m. A complainant reported an unknown suspect placed a 12-foot Christmas tree into a shopping cart and walked to the cashier. The unknown suspect produced a receipt for the purchase of the same tree at an similar store in Crestwood.

Oct. 30

Identity theft was reported in the 300 block of E. Huntington at 3:25 p.m. A victim stated he received a bill for three phone numbers that were activated using his personal information. The victim notified the phone company of the fraudulent account.

Oct. 5

Identity theft was reported in the 300 block of Fairview at 3:08 p.m. A victim told police that a suspect(s) used his personal information to open a Verizon account.

Sept. 10

Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of Linden. A victim told police that an unknown suspect used her personal information and withdrew funds from her bank account. Pending further investigation.

Violation of an order of protection

Nov. 15

Jaxson R. Taylor, 18, of Chicago, was charged with violation of an order of protection in the 100 block of Prospect at 5:35 p.m. Police said an officer responded to the lobby of the police department for the report of a violation of an order of protection. The victim related she received an electronic message and an email from Taylor, which violated the order, according to police.

Warrant arrest

Nov. 12

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Highview at 8:13 p.m., Maria G. Salcido-Hernandez, 26, of Maywood, a passenger in the vehicle, was found to have a valid warrant out of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.

Nov. 11

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Schiller and Geneva at 8:28 p.m., Dena Kanak, 50, of Chicago, was found to have a valid warrant out of the Orland Park Police Department.
