Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

Assault, battery

Oct. 7

Ryan T. Howard, 35, of Elmhurst, was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer in the 200 block of Bonnie Brae at 5:05 p.m. Police said officers were dispatched to the above location for a domestic disturbance where Howard was breaking property and threatening family members. While being taken into custody, Howard committed battery against the officer, according to police.

Battery

Oct. 13

Thomas A. McElligott, 39, of Bloomingdale, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery at Elmhurst Hospital at 4:44 a.m. According to police, a victim related the suspect spat in his face and eyes. According to police, another victim related the suspect kicked him in the chest and punched him in the face.

Criminal damage, criminal trespass

Oct. 12

While on patrol, an officer observed three paper signs were torn down and damaged from in front of a business in the 100 block of Addison.

Oct. 4-Oct. 9

A victim told police that he parked his Land Rover in the Schiller parking deck. Once on the roadway, the victim learned the winch cable had been pulled out and the winch hook was dragging underneath the vehicle. The winch hook had caught on the brake line and the vehicle was leaking brake fluid.

Oct. 8

A complainant in the 100 block of N. Addison told police at an unknown suspect(s) damaged three large signs which were displayed on the exterior windows of his business. An investigation is pending.

Oct. 7-Oct. 8

A complainant at a business in the 100 block of Addison told police that an unknown suspect(s) damaged three large signs which were displayed on the outside windows of his business sometime between the above dates. 

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance

Oct. 14

A complainant in the 600 block of Swain told police at 12:18 a.m. that subsequent to a verbal argument, the suspect grabbed her. The suspect related the complainant took his phone and he attempted to get his phone back. There were no signs of injury and the complainant agreed the suspect had not intended on harming her as he attempted to get his phone back. No arrests were made. The suspect left the residence for the evening.

Oct. 12

A 33-year-old Elmhurst woman was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 500 block of W. St. Charles at 2:18 p.m. The suspect also was found to have a warrant out of Oceana County, Mich., for her arrest.

DUI, DUI-drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol, illegal possession of alcohol, consumption of alcohol by a minor

Oct. 9

Jefferson A. Martinez Gomez, 18, of Bensenville, was charged with DUI, possession of cannabis by a driver, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, transportation of open alcohol and no insurance near Third and Addison at 8:32 p.m. 

Fleeing, eluding

According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported two incidents of fleeing and eluding in which drivers of a vehicle or a motorcycle reportedly fled after a traffic stop was conducted.

Oct. 9

Seth A. Marquez, 19, of Lombard, was issued citations for fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, speeding, improper lane usage and no insurance near York and North at 1:18 a.m. While an officer was on patrol, police said the officer observed a speeding vehicle which was weaving through traffic. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle allegedly fled at a high rate of speed eastbound North Avenue. An ISPERN message was broadcast. Police said Marquez was located and agreed to turn himself in to the police.

Harassment, threats

Oct. 7

A victim in the 200 block of W. 1st told police at 11:49 a.m. that he received several threatening phone calls from an unknown suspect due to the termination of an employee. An investigation is pending.

Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance

Oct. 10

Destiny Pagan, 21, of Franklin Park, was issued citations for possession of open alcohol and possession of an open container of cannabis in a vehicle subsequent to a suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of N. Addison at 11:54 p.m.

Suspicious circumstances

Oct. 8-Oct. 13

A victim in the 400 block of W. St. Charles told police at 11:47 a.m. that he made an online purchase of a Play Station 5. When the package was delivered, it contained only a surgical mask.

Oct. 10

Nicholas Spallone, 18, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for prowling in the 400 block of N. West at 10:13 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a call for suspicious people at a preschool, Spallone and a juvenile were found to have been on the roof of the school. The juvenile will be referred to a Peer Jury and was released to his parents. 

Police said officers and the fire department responded for the report of a fire in the middle of the street in the 100 block of E. Adams at 3:48 a.m. The fire had burned out when officers arrived. The complainant related he observed someone igniting an unknown liquid in the middle of the street. Officers checked the area with no results.

Police said a complainant in the 500 block of W. Second reported receiving several phone calls, text messages, and packages delivered to her house from a suspect regarding the complainant’s daughter who no longer lives at this address. The officer contacted the suspect and told him to cease contact with the complainant and her daughter.

Oct. 9

Police said an officer responded to the 100 block of W. Grantley at 1:01 p.m. for the report of a subject who stuck his hand through a fence and was bitten by a dog. A neighbor (victim) in the area came out to see why the subject was yelling. The subject allegedly struck the neighbor in the face. The neighbor did not wish to pursue charges. An animal bite report was sent to the DuPage County Animal Control.

Theft or burglary/identity theft/fraud/forgery/deceptive practice/obstruction/robbery

Oct. 13

Theft was reported in the 700 block of Howard at 4:50 p.m. A victim told police that she made online purchases for clothing and a used laptop computer. She received a notification that FedEx delivered her packages and the items were signed for. The victim never received, or signed for, the packages.

Oct. 12

Attempted forgery was reported at a bank in the 300 block Route 83 at 1:57 p.m. A bank employee advised the suspect provided a fictitious ID and attempted to withdraw $7,000. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. Officers checked the area with no results.

Oct. 11-Oct. 12

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of Prospect. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered her unlocked vehicle and stole cash from the center console sometime between the above dates. 

Oct. 11

Jerome C. Easley, 22 of Chicago, was charged with possession of stolen vehicle parts, while Bryan Yancy, 54, of Chicago, was charged with possession of stolen vehicle parts, theft, driving while license suspended, no insurance and no valid registration at a business in the 800 block of N. York at 5:15 a.m. Police said officers located the suspects’ vehicle fleeing southbound on York Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop. Police said the suspects admitted to stealing tires from the business. Subsequent to a search of the vehicle, six spare tires and tools used to remove the tires were located, according to police.

Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of Addison at 10:38 a.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) used his personal information to open a Verizon account.

Oct. 10

Theft was reported in the 100 block of S. York at 8:39 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect stole her black electric scooter from the alley where it was parked.

Oct. 8

Theft was reported in the 100 block of Prospect at 1:02 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) stole her wallet from her unattended purse. The victim was notified of two transaction attempts using her credit card. The victim’s driver’s license was entered into LEADS.

Theft was reported in the 100 block of Prospect at 10:39 p.m. A victim told police that while at work, an unknown suspect(s) stole her wallet from her unattended backpack. The victim received an alert for two attempts of fraudulent purchases made with her credit card. The victim’s driver’s license was entered into LEADS.

Sept. 25-Oct. 8

A complainant at a company in the 700 block of N. Industrial told police the company had two trailers shipped to the above address. On Oct. 8, the complainant found the trailers were missing. One trailer was traced to Florida and the second trailer is unable to be tracked. An investigation is pending.

Oct. 4-Oct. 6

Theft was reported in the 400 block of Addison. A victim told police that an unknown suspect removed the clear plate cover, four screws, and the rear license plate from his vehicle. The license plate was entered into LEADS.

Sept. 29

Fraud was reported in the 400 block of N. York at 12:22 p.m. A victim told police that she received a suspicious text message and contacted the phone number listed. The victim was advised they were contacting her to collect a debt. The victim gave the unknown suspect her credit card number and authorized a payment. After realizing it was a scam, the victim contacted her credit card company and is disputing the charge.

Sept. 14-Sept. 15

Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 100 block of Prospect. A victim told police that an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from her vehicle while it was parked in the parking lot at the above location.

Unlawful use of a weapon

Oct. 10

Darius Smith, 32, of Homewood, was charged with DUI, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon for possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of cannabis by a driver and improper parking in the roadway near York and Lake at 7:11 p.m. Police said that while on patrol, an officer observed a vehicle at the intersection of Lake and York with the driver, Smith, and passenger sleeping in the front seat. Subsequent to an investigation, police said Smith was found to be in possession of a stolen firearm.
