Lombard Police investigate reports of theft, fraud related to stolen mail

The Lombard Police Department is investigating reports of theft and fraud related to stolen mail from collection boxes located outside the Lombard Post Office.

Over the past two months, collection boxes outside of the Lombard Post Office have been broken into on two occasions resulting in the theft of mail and subsequent fraud to citizens’ bank accounts.

The Lombard Police Department has contacted the U.S. Postal Inspectors Division and urged it to work with the Lombard Police Department Investigation’s Unit.

Mail theft or tampering is investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Residents who experience fraud or lost mail are advised to contact the U.S. Postal Inspectors Office at www.uspis.gov/report.

Additionally, with the delays in mail delivery announced by the U.S. Postal Service, the Village of Lombard asks residents to consider making payments and transactions online when possible. Online transactions are convenient and safer than ever before. To pay your water bill online, sign-up on the WaterSmart Portal at https://lombard.watersmart.com/index.php/welcome.

Residents will need their water billing account number and an email address. Once registered, go to settings, communication preferences, and select Email under bill delivery method.
