Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

Assault, battery

June 23

A complainant in the 600 block of W. Gladys told police at 2:11 p.m. that a suspect pushed him following a verbal altercation. The reporting officer spoke with the suspect who denied pushing the complainant.

Police said that subsequent to a road rage incident near North and Melrose at 5:58 p.m., the victim reported two male suspects exited their vehicle, approached his vehicle, and began threatening him with a knife. Both suspects left the area but were later located in Melrose Park. One suspect was placed under arrest and was transported to the police station. He was released without charges, pending additional investigation.

Criminal damage

June 19

Police said officers responded at 9:16 p.m. to a report of suspects who were throwing items off of the south side of the Addison parking deck. The reporting officer did not observe anyone on the top level, nor along the south side of the parking deck. The officer observed three light bulbs were removed from the ceiling of the elevator and were broken on the ground outside.

June 16-June 17

A victim in the 500 block of Cottage Hill told police that an unknown suspect(s) defaced the exterior of her residence and scratched the glass on the front door sidelights.

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance

June 17

A complainant in the 100 block of W. Virginia told police at 11:27 p.m. that she and her juvenile son were involved in a verbal argument over cell phone privileges. The juvenile related he blocked the door so the complainant could not enter his bedroom. There were no signs of injury to the complainant or her son. Both subjects were advised to avoid each other for the remainder of the evening.

DUI, DUI-drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol, illegal possession of alcohol

June 20

Renee Kraus, 43, of Wood Dale, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, DUI-drugs, improper lane usage and no insurance subsequent to a vehicle crash near Route 83 and Lake at 5:12 p.m.

Police said that subsequent to a suspicious vehicle in the 600 block of W. North at 3:01 a.m., the juvenile suspect was found to be in violation of curfew and in possession of open alcohol while under the age of 21. The suspect was referred to the peer jury program and was released to the custody of his parents.

June 19

Alexis N. Burgos, 24, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, no valid driver’s license, speeding and transportation of open alcohol subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Berteau at 2 a.m.

June 18

Wayne L. James, 51, of Addison, was charged with two counts of improper lane usage, DUI, unlawful possession of cannabis by driver and transportation of open alcohol,

Fleeing, eluding

According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported one incident of fleeing and eluding in which drivers of a vehicle or a motorcycle reportedly fled after a traffic stop was conducted.

Leaving the scene of an accident

June 19

Wilmer L. Velasquez, 26, of Bensenville, was charged with driving while license suspended, no insurance and leaving the scene of a property damage accident subsequent to a traffic crash near Lake and Grand at 6:11 p.m. Police said the suspect fled the scene on foot.

Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance

June 22

David Martinez, 29; Edgar Meza, 27; and Jose Salazar, 27, all of Chicago, were charged with city ordinance possession of cannabis in a vehicle subsequent to a traffic stop near Park and York at 4:31 p.m.

June 20

Bryce M. Worthy, 24, of Frankfort, was cited for possession of cannabis in a vehicle in the 500 block of W. Grand at 12:43 a.m.

June 19

Paula Fuller, 58, of Windthorst, Texas, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis in a vehicle in the 500 block of W. Grand at 7:34 p.m.

Vince H. Garcia, 25, of Chicago, was issued citations for no valid registration, unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Grand at 4:25 p.m.

Police said that subsequent to an investigation of a disabled vehicle near Lake and York at 11:22 p.m., a juvenile driver was found to not have a valid driver’s license and was in possession of cannabis. A juvenile passenger was found to be in possession of tobacco products and cannabis. The driver was cited for no valid driver’s license and unlawful possession of cannabis by driver, and was released on scene to his parent. The passenger will be referred to peer jury and was released on scene to his parent.

June 17

Christina M. Pickle, 35, of Villa Park, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, DUI-drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, no insurance and operating a vehicle while using an electronic communications device subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Fair at 9:58 a.m.

Suspicious circumstances

June 23

A victim in the 300 block of S. Washington told police at 11:44 a.m. that she heard footsteps in her home and found her front door open. This case is pending investigation.

Theft or burglary/identity theft/fraud/forgery/deceptive practice/obstruction/robbery

June 23

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 700 block of S. York at 1:04 p.m.  A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) forced entry to his vehicle and removed a brown satchel containing jewelry and cash. This case is pending investigation.

June 21

Edward S. Walker, 38, of Bellwood, was charged with retail theft in the 100 block of Schiller at 4:45 p.m. Police said Walker was found to have concealed groceries in his backpack and left the store without paying for the merchandise.

Fraud was reported in the 200 block of S. West at 4:37 p.m. A complainant told police that a subject was seen dumping items into a dumpster. Several counterfeit bills were located in the dumpster. The bills were collected and placed into evidence. An investigation is pending.

Jan. 1-June 20

Theft was reported in the 400 block of E. Lake. A victim’s granddaughter told police that an unknown suspect removed a bronze urn from a family member’s grave at Elm Lawn Cemetery sometime within the past six months. There is no suspect information.

June 19

Deceptive practice was reported in the 700 block of Poplar at 6:45 p.m. A victim told police that while attempting to cancel his annual service fee, a store employee provided an incorrect number to call. The victim called the provided telephone number and provided his banking information for the reimbursement. The victim discovered two unauthorized transactions were made by an unknown suspect. The phone number was found to be a scam.

June 18

Retail theft was reported at a store in the 900 block of S. York at 6:35 p.m. Police said officers responded to the above location for the report of a retail theft that just occurred. Officers located the suspect in the parking lot of the business. The suspect took merchandise and left the store without paying. The manager did not wish to press charges, but wanted the items returned, and asked that the suspect be issued a no-trespass order. The suspect was referred to Senior Services.

June 17

Retail theft was reported at a pharmacy in the 100 block of W. North at 8:39 p.m. A complainant told police that two suspects—one, a female, the other, a male; each around 33 years old—concealed liquor and left the store without paying for the merchandise.

June 14-June 17

Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 200 block of N. Walnut. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed the catalytic converter from his vehicle that was parked in his driveway sometime between the above dates.

June 15

Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 400 block of N. York at 8:11 a.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed her unattended vehicle’s catalytic converter while the vehicle was parked in the parking lot.

May 28

Credit card fraud was reported in the 1-100 block of Elm Creek at 7:01 p.m.  A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) had compromised his stock trading account and opened a debit card using the victim’s name.

Unemployment benefits identity theft

According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported two incidents of identity theft with the intention of using a victim’s personal information to fraudulently apply for unemployment benefits through the Illinois Department of Employment Security.

Warrant arrest

June 22

Police said Christopher Kazmierczak, 26, of Elmhurst, had a warrant out of the DuPage County Sheriff’s office subsequent to a traffic stop near West and Fremont at 6:33 p.m. Kazmierczak also was charged with driving while license suspended, unlawful possession of medical cannabis in a vehicle, no seat belt and failure to signal when required.
