Lombard/Villa Park obituaries—July 22

LOUISE BIEGALSKI
Louise Biegalski, nee Rettinger, age 78 of Lombard. Beloved wife of Greg Biegalski; loving mother of Jack (Lorrie) Biegalski, Mike (Kim) Biegalski, Paul (Louise) Biegalski, and Jim (Lisa) Biegalski; devoted grandmother of Michael, Matthew, Mitchell, Mason, Maggie, Elizabeth, Rachel, Mark, Eric, Chase, Camryn, Cailyn, Claire, and the late Lexi Biegalski; dear sister of Betty Beaven and the late Carol Witheft; aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Louise Marie Biegalski (Rettinger) was born on October 21, 1942, to Jack and Stella Rettinger. Louise, a 50 year resident of Lombard and longtime parishioner of Christ the King parish, grew up on the Northwest side of Chicago and graduated from Notre Dame High School for Girls. It was about that time that she met the love of her life, Greg Biegalski. They were married at St. Philomena’s Roman Catholic Church on October 14, 1961.
Louise’s greatest source of pride was her marriage of almost 60 years, her four sons, and her 14 grandchildren. Louise loved to cook, often preparing elaborate Sunday dinners for her large family. She also loved spending extended time at the family’s lake house in Wisconsin. She mischievously loved to spoil her grandchildren with ice cream and sprinkles for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and always had a bag of candy in her purse. Louise had a fun-loving, witty personality and will be missed by many.
Memorial Mass Saturday, July 24th at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1501 S. Main St, Lombard. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, are appreciated. For more information: www.knollcrest.net or 630-932-1500.

JOHN H. JONES
John H. Jones, age 93, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021, at his home in the Lombard Place Assisted Living community.
Jack was a lifelong Lombardian who lived a life of service. After graduating from Glenbard High School, he served in the U.S. Navy for seven years, serving two years in San Diego, California.
Jack returned from San Diego and became the manager of the Lombard News Agency. Inspired by his father-in-law and brothers-in-law, who were volunteer firefighters in Glen Ellyn, he joined the volunteer Lombard Fire Department in 1957. Jack was appointed fire chief in 1963, and by 1969 he left the News Agency to become Lombard’s first paid full-time fire chief. In 1973, under Chief Jones, today’s paid-on-call Lombard Fire Department was instituted.
Jack retired from the fire department in 1993 after 36 years of service, and continued his volunteerism in town; serving on the fire department pension board, working with the Lombard Historical Commission, serving the homeless community through PADS and delivering meals (Meals on Wheels) to Lombard residents, just to name a few.
He walked dozens of charity walks in his retired years and especially enjoyed the annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving with his daughters and the family dogs.
When Jack wasn’t busy with his various community commitments, his passion was his home and family. Jack and Audrey raised 4 children and enjoyed DIY projects at home, antiquing and collecting historical fire department related items. Jack had the skills of a carpenter, plumber, electrician, you name it. He even learned to fly an airplane. He was continually building, repairing or designing something clever for their home. Jack and Aud were avid bicyclists, and when Audrey’s MS required a cane, they transitioned to tandem riding, and rode thousands of miles together over the years. Through the years of Audrey’s increasing disabilities from MS, Jack was her dedicated and loving caregiver.
Jack is survived by his daughters Polly Jones (Cally Raduenzel) and Kelli Jones (Daniel Sacharny), five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and one great-great niece. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Jones, his wife, Audrey Jones, his daughter, Kristin Schlueter and two sons, David and John Jones.
Jack was a faithful Lutheran and a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for over 60 years. He will be missed by all those who knew him.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lombard.
The family asks (and our dad would really appreciate!) that in lieu of flowers, a donation is made to Anderson Animal Shelter of Elgin, IL by going to https://www.andersonanimalshelter.org/donate. Thank you.
