‘4 on the 4th’ race is ‘4 on the 3rd’ this year

The 4 on the 4th will be the 4 on the 3rd this year.

Elmhurst Running Club’s annual Fourth of July running race will take place at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, July 3. The 4-mile event will start and finish on So. Prospect Ave., in between Elmhurst University and Wilder Park. This year’s race is limited to 700 runners who will be separated into seven starting groups of 100, as a COVID-19 precaution.

There will be no kids race this year because of COVID concerns.

“Working with the city, it is best to have the race on Saturday, not Sunday, out of respect for the churches along our race route,” race director Bob Richards of the Elmhurst Running Club said. “And even with Restore Illinois Phase 5 a strong possibility, we’re being very careful regarding COVID-19 in our planning. We are all anxious to have safe in-person event in Elmhurst.”

The race was canceled last year because of the pandemic.

Runners and joggers are urged to register quickly if they want to participate because of the 700-participant limit. Go to www.4on4th.com to sign up, see the course map and view other race information.
