Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

 

Criminal damage, criminal defacement

Sept. 6-Sept. 7

Police said an agent for a victim’s company in the 300 block of W. Lake told police at around 9:41 a.m. that an unknown suspect damaged a semi-trailer by spray painting graffiti markings on the side of the trailer while it was parked overnight in the lot. The victim reports the same trailer was vandalized in the same manner six months ago.

 

Sept. 19

Police said that in the 300 block of Commonwealth at around 5:15 a.m., a witness observed a black Chevrolet Cavalier (unknown license plate) parked in front of his house at Commonwealth/Beverly facing the wrong direction. He observed two male white teens running northbound on Commonwealth. One male, carrying a bag, entered the black vehicle and fled in an unknown direction. Officers checked the park district building at Eldridge Park and discovered the soda machine had been damaged. The cash dispenser slot had been broken out as though someone was attempting to steal money out of the machine. Numerous broken pieces were scattered on the ground in front of the machine.

Child endangerment

Sept. 6

Police said officers responded to the above location for the report of an unattended 1-year-old child left sleeping in a vehicle. The reporting officer located the child who was secured in a child safety seat in the rear passenger side. Officers were able to locate the child’s mother who stated she did not want to wake the child, according to police. The mother, Cristina Filipa, 31, of Addison, was charged with child endangerment.

 

Disorderly conduct

 

Sept. 9

Police said officers responded for a complaint of an intoxicated person on the complainant’s front porch in the 800 block of Washington at around 6:25 a.m. The suspect, Daniel Sullivan, 27, of New Lenox, was located near a school, according to police. Sullivan was issued a citation for disorderly conduct-public intoxication.

 

Sept. 8

Police said officers responded to the 500 block of N. York at around 5:10 p.m. for the report of a man lying in the parking lot. Officers located Robert Baldwin, 68, of Elmhurst, and found him to be intoxicated, according to police. He was issued a citation for public intoxication.

 

Sept. 7

Darla A. Figved, 51, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct-public intoxication near Prospect and Van Buren at around 10:43 p.m.

Police said school resource officers at York High School responded to the school cafeteria at around 1:33 p.m. for a report of a fight that had just occurred. A reporting officer made contact with both juveniles. One of the juveniles was issued citations for disorderly conduct and possession of alternative nicotine products. The other juvenile was issued a citation for disorderly conduct. Both juveniles were released to their parents.

 

Sept. 6

Police said officers were advised of a fight in progress in the school cafeteria at York High School at around 1:10 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located the two who were involved in a physical fight during their lunch period. Each was cited for disorderly conduct and their respective parents were notified.

 

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disturbance

 

Sept. 18

Police said a suspect became upset at the victim because she was made to clean her room. The suspect went to the kitchen and took a knife from the kitchen counter. The suspect was restrained by her father. The suspect’s parents declined medical evaluation, stating they would take the suspect for treatment.

Police said responding officers met with a victim and the suspect at in the 200 block of W. First at around 7:44 p.m. The victim related he began walking toward the door when the suspect grabbed him from behind. The victim pushed the suspect aside and exited the apartment. Due to conflicting stories, no arrests were made.

Police said responding officers met with a suspect in the 100 block of E. Grand at around 8:23 p.m., who related she had gotten into a verbal argument earlier in the night with her boyfriend. When they returned to her apartment, the suspect slapped the victim in the face and the victim then pushed the suspect back. Due to conflicting stories and no visible signs of injury, no arrests were made.

 

Sept. 8

A 42-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with domestic battery in the 100 block of N. Addison at around 1:05 a.m. Police said a witness confirmed that a battery occurred whereby the suspect choked and pulled the victim’s hair.

 

DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, open alcohol in public, consumption of alcohol by a minor, public intoxication

 

Sept. 9

Daniel Defily, 32, of Lombard, was charged with DUI drugs and failure to signal subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Riverside at around 12:28 a.m.

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Fair at around 2:46 a.m., Samantha Ocampo, 19, of Berwyn, a passenger in the vehicle, was found to have consumed alcohol and was under the age of 21. She was issued citations for consumption of alcohol by a minor and illegal transportation of alcohol.

 

Sept. 8

Jeremy L. Hansen, 41, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for public intoxication in the 200 block of E. Third at around 2:10 a.m. Police said officers responded to the above location for Hansen, who was allegedly passed out on the sidewalk. Officers located Hansen who was found to be intoxicated and sustained an abrasion to his right foot, according to police.

Police said that subsequent to a DUI following call, a vehicle was located and stopped near Bensenville at Church and McLean at around 2:57 a.m. The allegedly vehicle fled from the traffic stop and was eventually located in Bensenville. Jesse C. Ingram, 20, of Bensenville, was taken into custody and transported to the police station. He was charged with DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, consumption of alcohol by a minor, obstructing a police officer, driving while license suspended, improper lane usage and no insurance. Police said Ingram also was found to be wanted out of DuPage County.

Raymond Quinones, 43, of Hanover Park, was charged with DUI, injuring city property, possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane usage subsequent to a single car crash investigation in the 300 block of W. Lake at around 6:11 a.m.

 

Fleeing, eluding

 

Sept.9

Police said that while on patrol near North and Melrose at around 4:15 a.m., a reporting officer conducted a registration check on a Ford Explorer, which returned with a stolen vehicle hit out of Niles. Upon attempting to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, eastbound on I-290 from North Avenue. Officers also attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Lexus which was traveling with the Ford Explorer. That vehicle also fled at a high rate of speed and was found to be a freshly stolen vehicle out of Glenview.

 

Harassment, threats

 

Sept. 19

A victim in the 100 block of Knighton Place related to a responding officer at around 4:24 p.m. that the suspect worked for them briefly and was let go from the job. The victim received threatening text messages from the suspect, who then threated the victim’s assistant as well. The victim did not want to sign complaints but wanted the victim to be contacted by police.

 

Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a

controlled substance

 

Sept. 18

Clifton Calvert, 28, of Elmhurst, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempted obstructing justice, speeding, failure to signal, improper lane usage and littering subsequent to a traffic stop near Kenilworth and Crescent at around 6:25 p.m. Police said Calvert was found to be in possession of a spoon which contained heroin residue.

 

Sept. 10

Wilfrido Manjarrez, 30, of Chicago, was issued citations for possession of cannabis, speeding and tinted windows subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Addison at around 2:57 a.m.

Shannon K. Trotter, 31, of Detroit, Mich., was issue citations for possession of cannabis, illegal transportation of alcohol and disobeying a traffic control device, while Demetrius Cade, 43, of Detroit, was issued citations for possession of cannabis and illegal transportation of alcohol subsequent to a traffic stop near North and York at around 3:35 a.m.

 

Sept. 8

Nolan Ryan Murnick, 24, of Downers Grove, was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Commerce at around 12:13 a.m.

 

Sept. 6

Austin Maher, 20, and Natasha Jung, 19, both of Downers Grove, were issued citations for possession of cannabis in the 100 block of S. Prospect at around 6:54 p.m.

Police said officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute in the 500 block of E. Park at around 7:22 a.m. Prior to the officers’ arrival, police said the suspect, Scott Muehring, 43, of Elmhurst, left the residence. A subsequent investigation revealed a domestic argument had escalated to both parties pushing each other, according to police. The victim advised officers Muehring was known to keep cannabis in the house, police said. During a consent search of the residence, police said officers located cannabis and a scale. According to police, Muehring admitted to ownership of the contraband. He came into the police station and was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

Suspicious circumstances

 

Aug. 21-Sept. 8

A victim in the 600 block of Armitage told police at around 11:24 a.m. they are the owner of an unoccupied house. The victim reports receiving mailings addressed to unknown suspects. The mailings are from the Illinois Secretary of State, Selective Service System, and a company. A neighbor of the victim reported seeing the driver of a white sedan removing mail from the mailbox on several occasions.

Sept. 19

Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of E. Park at around 9:26 p.m. A victim told police that she was contacted by her bank and told her debit card had been compromised. There were multiple unauthorized charges to the card, and it has been cancelled.

 

Sept. 18-Sept. 19

Attempted theft was reported in the 100 block of S. West. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) attempted to break into the vending machine on the north side of the athletic building at Plunket Park between the above dates. The vending machine had extensive damage to the bill collector on the front of the machine but no cash was removed.

 

Sept. 18

Attempted burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 300 block of W. Lake at around 1:32 p.m. A victim related to the responding officer he had parked his vehicle in the front lot of the business at 12:20 p.m. and returned at 1:20 p.m. to find the lock cylinder on the driver’s door had been punched through the door panel. The victim related that entry was not gained to his vehicle as it was still locked when he returned.

Theft was reported in the 400 block of N. York at around 5:42 p.m. A reporting officer responded to the above location due to an individual who failed to pay for gas. The suspect had pumped gas and left the lot in an unknown direction without paying. The suspect was wearing a black Jordan jacket, a white Chicago Bulls shirt, and a black head cap.

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 200 block of Walter Street at around 5:50 p.m. A victim told police he parked his vehicle at the Mill Theater parking lot at Elmhurst College. The victim related at 4:30 p.m., the victim returned to his vehicle to

find his black backpack had been taken. The victim’s credit card was found to have been used in Northlake.

 

Sept. 17

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of N. York at around 11:05 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown male suspect wearing a white long sleeved jacket with a yellow strip on the sleeve enter his parked, unlocked vehicle. The unknown suspect removed the victim’s lunch cooler.

 

Sept. 16

A complainant in the 300 block of S. Kenilworth told police at around 11:52 p.m. that her husband received a cashier’s check in response to an ad for employment to be a secret shopper. He was instructed to cash the check and  wait 24 hours for it to clear. He was then instructed to purchase I-Tunes gift cards and send the suspect the numbers on the back.

 

Sept. 14

Attempted retail theft was reported at a store in the 900 block of S. York at around 9 p.m. A complainant told police that while stocking the beer coolers, he observed a male and female in the baby formula aisle. The suspects were placing several cans of baby formula in a gray and orange back pack. The complainant approached the suspects and told them to hand over the bag and that the police had been called. The suspects left the bag and fled the store.

 

Sept. 9

A victim in the 100 block of E. North End told police at around 8:30 p.m. that he lost his cell phone and used an application to find it. The application showed the phone in Franklin Park. An officer responded to the area in an attempt to locate the phone and was met with no results.

 

Sept. 8

Forgery was reported in the 100 block of E. Butterfield at around 8:40 a.m. A victim told police that a suspect attempted to pay for merchandise with a suspected counterfeit bill. Officers responded to the scene. The suspect was detained and transported to the police station. The suspect was released without charges. United States Secret Service was notified and will investigate the complaint.

Theft was reported in the 1200 block of S. York at around 8:46 p.m. A victim told police that a suspect had stolen cash from her bank account over the past several months. An investigation is pending.

Theft was reported at a restaurant in the 200 block of N. York at around 10:23 p.m. Police said an unknown suspect placed an order paying with a $100 bill. The male then allegedly distracted the cashier, taking the $100 bill back along with getting $91.45 back in change.

 

Sept. 7

Theft by deception was reported in the 200 block of N. Addison at around 2:43 p.m. A victim told police he was contacted by an unknown male suspect, stating his grandson was involved in a minor accident and needed cash to be released from custody. The unknown suspect instructed the victim to purchase two Walmart Gift cards and two Home Depot Gift Cards. The victim only purchased the Walmart gift cards and provided the unknown suspect with the card numbers. The victim’s wife grew suspicious and contacted their grandson who advised he was fine.

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 500 block of W. Lake at around 3:07 p.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect forced entry to his locked work truck and removed multiple tools. The victim did not know where or when the incident occurred, but reported it could have happened while he was completing a job in either Carol Stream or Wheaton.

Attempted retail theft was reported at a store in the 600 block of N. York at around 5:08 p.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect attempted to steal a bottle of vodka. When loss prevention confronted the suspect, he reportedly rammed a shopping cart at the loss prevention employee and fled the store in a teal Pontiac Grand Prix, unknown direction of travel.

Theft of lost property was reported in the 300 block of W. Lake at around 10:28 p.m. A victim told police that he lost his gold iPhone 6S Plus in one of the ball pits and was able to track it to the west parking lot. The phone pinged a location between two vehicles. The vehicle owners consented to a search of their cars and the search was met with no results.

 

Aug. 1-Sept. 4

Police said an agent for the victim’s company in the 800 block of N. Church Court told police at around 8:58 a.m. that over a period of five weeks, the company has had six iPhone 7s, six Otterbox phone cases and one Milwaukee SawZall stolen from the office area.

 

Sept. 2

Police said an agent for the victim’s company told police at around 10:03 a.m. an employee stole merchandise. During an internal investigation, the company was able to make a partial recovery of the merchandise from the suspect. An investigation is pending.

 

June 18

A victim in the 800 block of N. York told police at around 4:04 p.m. that a suspect filled out a credit application at a car dealership to purchase a new car and trade in her old vehicle. After providing an Illinois driver’s license and insurance card, the suspect was given the new vehicle, a white 2017 Nissan Altima. The information given by the suspect was later found to be fraudulent and the victim has been unable to get in contact with the suspect. The vehicle has been entered into LEADS as stolen.

Sept. 17

Police said Jesse Rivera, 47, of Elmhurst, was found to be wanted out of the Cook County Sheriff’s office in the 400 block of N. Ridgeland at around 8:20 p.m.
