Lombardian Speak Out–Sept. 13

Lombard calling. I know there’s been a campaign over the last few years called “Start Seeing Motorcycles.” I’m all for that, and I do make a conscious effort to be aware when I see motorcycles around me while I’m in traffic. I have friends who are motorcycle enthusiasts. I think the majority of motorcyclists out there, like my friends, are considerate and obey the speed limit, the rules of the road, etc. But some of you really annoy me by the way you drive. For example, I often take I-290 to and from Schaumburg, and I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve seen motorcyclists going at least 80 to 90 mph in what I think is a 60 mph zone. And I’ve never seen any of them get stopped for speeding. If you want those of us in cars to see you, isn’t it a two-way street? Why is it solely on us to watch out for you when you recklessly dart in between cars and blow past us at a high rate of speed? You’re on a highway, not on a race track.

Hi, Lombard calling. The Lombardian used to have quotes throughout the newspaper, mostly inspirational by inspirational people. I really enjoyed them. I haven’t seen one in a super long time. I wonder why you stopped including them. Thank you.

I’m calling about the person who called to SPEAK OUT about you’re supposed to train your dog to walk on the sidewalk next to you on the parkway side. Show me a rulebook that says that you have to do that. Show me the rulebook that you’re supposed to train your dog to walk on the parkway side. As I said before, why don’t you train the foxes, the coyotes, the raccoons, the skunks, the opossums to go on the parkway side. Who are you talking about? You just show me the rulebook where it says to do that.

To the teacher who talked about spoiled baby syndrome, saying, “Parents, stop allowing your children to blame everyone else,” I say, start with the parents—they are most likely doing the blaming and their children pick up on that. And, yes, my child was diagnosed with ADHD in grade school, by a pediatric neurologist. I have two grandchildren diagnosed on the autism spectrum, so to tell parents their child does not have anxiety or ADHD, but instead has no boundaries, is unprofessional. I was lucky a teacher I trusted brought certain things to my attention early on, for me to look into and follow up on. No judgment, no “diagnosis,” just observations. Where my grandchildren live, relevant medical professionals are few and far between. One grandchild’s teacher merely said if the child can’t keep up in her classroom, look elsewhere for another school. I would not want my child to have a teacher who does not believe that some behavioral symptoms are truly due to anxiety or ADHD disorders.

Hi, Villa Park calling. I just picked up my mail and it says New Life Villa Park coming soon, Sept. 23. New Life Community Church is coming to Iowa Community Center and it says meet with God, study the engaging messages from the Bible. Isn’t this kind of a no-no? What about separation of church and state? Isn’t this now allowed? How is this happening? Thanks, bye bye.

To the caller who said dog owners are “supposed to train your dog to walk on the sidewalk next to you on the parkway side”: Who says we are supposed to train them any certain way? The Village of Lombard? I don’t think so. Assuming the dog is trained to consistently walk/heel on the right side, for instance, and that the dog walker walks up and down the same block, the dog will be on the lawn side at least once along the route or are you going to tell people to only walk in one direction so as to stay on the parkway side? And then you tell people what kind of leashes to use. Are you the dog-walking police?

Hey, Republicans, you support abolishing Roe v. Wade and you want to limit access to birth control. You also are against funding Medicaid and welfare. Where are the hundreds of thousands of babies going to go in this new world of yours? Foster care is already bursting at the seams. I don’t understand.

I think the person who wrote that anonymous column about Donald Trump in the New York Times is nothing more than a self-serving coward. If they don’t like what Trump is doing, then why does this person continue to serve in his administration instead of trying to undermine it? Just resign. Then write the column and sign your name to it. Then you would be the darling of CNN and MSNBC and they would hire you as an analyst on the spot. The New York Times never should have published it. I guarantee if someone approached them when Obama was president and wanted to write a column critical of Obama but wanted to remain anonymous, the New York Times would have told them to get lost.

People continuously comment on how someone can be a Trump supporter. Trump has moved the country forward. He has a bad habit of opening his mouth at the wrong time. However, he is a man who gets things done. How could anyone vote for Obama? His regime almost destroyed this country with innuendos, division and hate. Some voted for him twice. Anyone voting Democratic this year will return us to the dark days of Obama. We get what we vote for. Look at the Supreme Court hearings. Do you want more of the yelling, shouting, disruption and near violence? Then vote with Schumer and the boys. The majority of my 75 years I voted Democratic. Not any more.

Lombard calling. I just bought a gift certificate from an optometrist. It’s for the Trump hater who seems to keep calling in, repeating the same things. Mr. Trump made a few bad choices with some of his associates, but with the bias and hatred of the media and your friends in Hollywood like Kathy Griffin who held up a severed head of our president, believe me, if that would have happened to our last dictator, I’m sorry, there would have been blood in the streets. As it is now, folks throw rocks at police officers and stomp on our flag. How many times do I have to repeat this? You are the people of the flag-stomping, police-hating, military-haters. We’re a military family; we also have law enforcement in our family. I don’t respect your party. You’re not the party of John F. Kennedy. You have turned into America-hating socialists.
