Bond set for Elmhurst man charged with videotaping 17-year-old girl

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced on Friday, Sept. 14, that an Elmhurst man has been charged with Unauthorized Video Recording, a Class 3 Felony, for allegedly videotaping a 17-year-old girl at an Elmhurst residence. Alberto Garcia, 34, of 989 No. York Road, appeared in Bond Court this morning where Judge Brian Jacobs set his bond at $100,000 with 10% to apply.

It is alleged that on Sept. 12, 2018, Garcia secretly positioned his cellular phone in the washroom at the residence in such a manner so that the camera on the phone had a view of the bathroom. It is alleged that after putting the phone in the bathroom, Garcia activated the video record function and exited the bathroom. A short time later, the victim went to the washroom and noticed the phone concealed in the washroom. The victim immediately alerted a trusted adult to what she had found who in turn contacted the police.

“The allegations against Mr. Garcia are, in a word, sickening,” Berlin said. “Invading another person’s privacy in such a revolting manner will not be tolerated and will be met with the full force of the law. I would like to thank the Elmhurst Police Department for their work on this case.”

Garcia’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 9 for arraignment in front of Judge Robert Miller.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt.
