Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

Criminal damage, criminal defacement, criminal trespass to property, vandalism

July 18
A complainant near York and Vallette told police at around 3:45 p.m. that while stopped at a red light, he observed an unknown suspect described as a white male punch out a window on a white Toyota Rav4. A suspect described as a white female exited the driver’s side and proceeded to move to the passenger side of the vehicle. The unknown white male suspect then walked to the driver’s side and both left the scene at a high rate of speed and were not located.

July 16
A victim in the 900 block of N. Oaklawn told police at around 8:02 p.m. that his Mercedes S550 was keyed while parked in a lot. The victim suspects a recently terminated employee keyed his vehicle.

July 14
Officers responded to a traffic crash in the 700 block of N. Howard at around 3:31 p.m. Subsequent to the crash, a suspect reportedly picked up the side mirror which had broken off of the vehicle he was driving, and struck the victim’s driver’s side window with it.
Police said officers responded to the 700 block of N. Lombard at around 3:31 p.m. for the report of a vehicle that crashed into a house. Following the crash, a suspect reportedly walked across the street, picked up a landscaping brick and threw the brick at the victim’s parked, unattended vehicle in an effort to shatter the driver’s side window. Medics arrived on scene and transported the suspect to Elmhurst Hospital for evaluation.

July 12-July 14
A complainant in the 300 block of S. Kenilworth told police that sometime between the above dates, a large wood carving was removed from an exterior door. The wood carving was later located by a reporting officer in a donation bin located on the east side of a church. The suspect left in an unknown direction. Further investigation is pending.

July 13
Police said officers responded to a call for a report of criminal damage to property in the 100 block of S. Prospect at around 7:24 a.m. According to police, a suspect had broken out the driver’s side window of a victim’s vehicle to obtain his car keys. The suspect reportedly used a brick in an attempt to gain access into a chapel damaging two key card panels. The suspect was served a no trespass notice and re-leased. Charges are pending.
A victim at a recreation center in the 100 block of S. West told police at around 2:08 p.m. that his vehicle was parked in the parking lot, and upon returning to his vehicle, he observed a large scratch on the rear passenger side door. A reporting officer will seek a warrant for the suspect’s arrest.

July 9-July 10
A complainant in the 100 block of N. Addison told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered the fenced off construction site located at Addison and First sometime between the above dates and spray-painted red spray paint on the interior walls of the first floor.

Disorderly conduct

July 14
Zachary J. Zajkowski, 19, of Roselle, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct in the 500 block of W. Grand at around 11:38 p.m. Police said officers responded to the report of a motorist assist with a Jeep that was in a ditch. According to police, Zajkowski related he purposely drove into the ditch, and his vehicle was subsequently stuck.

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disturbance

July 17
A 44-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 100 block of E. Diversey at around 6:08 a.m. Officers responded for a complaint of a physical domestic in progress. Upon arrival, police said the suspect admitted to striking the victim.
A victim’s mother told police at around 12:24 p.m. that they were involved in an argument. During the argument, the suspect reportedly threw a remote control at the victim. The victim was trans-ported to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment.
A victim in the 400 block of N. Addison told police at around 5:06 p.m. that she had been involved in a verbal argument with the suspect that turned physical. Due to conflicting statements and no signs of injury, no arrests were made.

July 16
Police said officers responded to the report of a domestic at the above location. A victim told police he and a suspect were engaged in a verbal argument when the suspect reportedly pushed him. The suspect denied making physical contact with the victim. No complaints to be signed and they agreed to stay away from each other for the evening.

July 1
Police said that while an officer was on patrol near York and St. Charles at around 3:23 a.m., the officer made contact with an intoxicated pedestrian who stated he was involved in a physical altercation with his brother. The brother told police he was involved in a verbal argument with the alleged intoxicated subject. Both subjects did not have any physical injuries, and due to conflicting stories, no arrests were made.

DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, open alcohol in public, consumption of alcohol by a minor

July 17
Lubomir Andreev, 46, of Villa Park, was charged with aggravated DUI, DUI and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Fair at around 11:56 p.m.
Nicole Coletta, 27, of Lom-bard, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and St. Charles at around 2:35 a.m.

July 14
Kyle A. Ezell, 20, of Villa Park, was issued a citation for consumption of alcohol by a minor in the 300 block of W. St. Charles at around 2:12 a.m. Police said while an officer was on patrol, the officer observed Ezell walk-ing and made contact with him. Ezell admitted to consuming a couple of beers and had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath, according to police.
Tamika S. Stinson, 34, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, possession of cannabis and no insurance near Butter-field and Commonwealth at around 12:27 a.m. Police said that subsequent to a report of a driver slumped over the steering wheel, an officer located Stinson, who matched the description provided. Stinson was found to be in possession of cannabis and DUI, according to police.

July 12
Abundio Soriano, 51, of Bensenville, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Diversey at around 10:02 p.m.

Fleeing, eluding

July 14
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Villa at around 3:30 a.m., the vehicle fled from the stop. An investigation is pending.

Harassment, threats

July 12
A victim in the 400 block of W. St. Charles told police at around 1 p.m. that she was threatened by her estranged husband. The victim was unable to provide a reporting officer with a current phone number or address for suspect.

Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance

July 14
Jason F. James, 33, of May-wood, was issued citations for possession of cannabis and illegal transportation of open alcohol near York and Butterfield at around 7:41 a.m. Police said that subsequent to a subject asleep be-hind the wheel, James was found to be in possession of cannabis and open alcohol.
Aaron Rollins, 18, of Chicago, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis in the 300 block of S. Poplar at around 2:26 p.m. Police said officers responded to the above location for a report of a suspicious male knocking on a complainant’s door, looking into windows of the house and looking into his vehicle. According to police, a reporting officer made con-tact with Rollins, who stated he was selling candy bars. Police said Rollins was found to be in possession of cannabis.

July 13
Bryson Graham, 20, of Bell-wood, was issued citations for possession of cannabis and tinted windows while Akierah Pettigrew, 19, of Hillside, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop near Butterfield and York at around 5:36 p.m.

July 12
Luis Corral Rodriguez, 19, of Villa Park, was charged with possession of cannabis, driving while license suspended and suspended registration subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Indiana at around 4:37 p.m. Corral Rodriguez also was wanted for a warrant out of DuPage County, according to police.
Abraham Martinez, 21, of Chicago, was issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia subsequent to a traffic stop near Butterfield and Commonwealth at around 8:10 a.m.

Suspicious circumstances

July 12
A victim in the 500 block of S. Swain told police at around 2:38 p.m. that he received an email from an address he did not recognize. The sender stated malware had been installed on victim’s computer. The sender demanded the victim to send $2,900 in bitcoin to a bitcoin address. There are no suspects at this time.

Theft/burglary/attempted theft or burglary/identity theft/fraud/forgery/deceptive practice/obstruction/robbery

July 17-July 18
Theft was reported in the 200 block of Berteau. A victim told police that sometime between the above dates, an unknown suspect removed the rear license plate from his vehicle. The screws holding the plate are intact; however, the rear plate is missing. The plate was entered into LEADS.

July 17
A victim in the 200 block of W. Wrightwood told police at around 8:13 a.m. that an unknown suspect infected the company’s computer server with a crypto virus and is demanding ransom payment in bitcoin. The victim wanted to report the incident in order to file an insurance claim.

July 15
Warren Ellison, 31, of Bensenville, was charged with theft of lost or mislaid property in the 400 block of N. York at around 11:27 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect allegedly took her Samsung cellphone which was on a counter at the above location. Upon reviewing security footage, Ellison was observed taking the phone, placing it in his pocket and leaving the store, ac-cording to police. Police said Ellison was later located and taken into custody.
Joseph Pulido, 44, of Elmhurst, was charged with retail theft at a store in the 900 block of S. York at around 8:57 p.m. Police said Pulido took a bottle of liquor, put it in his pocket and left without paying. Pulido was located and taken into custody, according to police.
Identity theft was reported in the 200 block of E. Third at around 1:10 p.m. A victim told police that while at a store, he may have left his wallet on the cashier check stand. The wallet contained several credit cards, an Illinois driver’s license, and a passport card. The victim contacted his credit card companies and learned fraudulent transactions were made with two of the credit cards. All the cards have since been cancelled.

July 14
Theft was reported in the 900 block of Riverside Drive at around 5:06 p.m. A victim told police that while at a wedding reception, she left her purse unattended while a crew was tearing down the room’s decorations. When she returned to the room she was unable to locate her purse. An investigation is pending.

July 13
Identity theft was reported in the 500 block of S. Fairfield at around 9:48 a.m. A victim told police that she received a Verizon bill for a wireless account which does not be-long to her. The victim re-ports an unknown suspect opened four unauthorized cell phone accounts using her personal information. The victim contacted Verizon, canceled the accounts, and the bill was waived.

July 11-July 13
Theft was reported in the 200 block of E. Lake between the above dates. A victim told police that while at an ex-tended care center she gave her niece, the suspect, an envelope containing cash to hold on to while she was in the center. The suspect will not answer her calls and suspects she may have spent the money. An investigation is pending.

July 6-July 13
Theft was reported at a business in the 700 block of N. York sometime between the above dates. A complainant told police the office manager discovered cash missing from the business’s petty cash. There are several drivers and helpers that have access to the office.

July 12
Forgery was reported in the 100 block of N. York at around 7:43 p.m. Police said a suspect was found to have purchased items from two businesses, using fraudulent $100 bills. The suspect was arrested and transported to the police station, where she was found to be a juvenile. The suspect was processed, referred to a juvenile officer and released to a family member.

July 11-July 12
Theft was reported in the 200 block of N. Berteau. A victim told police he ordered a charger cable, and USPS tracking showed it was delivered between the above dates. The victim stated he did not receive the package.

June 20-July 11
Identity theft was reported in the 800 block of S. Parkside. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) withdrew cash from his bank account from multiple ATMs in Chicago between the above dates.

Warrant arrest

July 18
Police said Derek Light, 41, of Northfield, walked into the police lobby to turn himself in on a warrant out of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office at around 4:53 p.m. Light was given a new court date and released on bond.
Police said that subsequent to responding to a burglar alarm in the 200 block of E. Butter-field at around 8:45 a.m., officers identified the employee, Vanessa Quinones, 45, of Elmwood Park, on scene. According to police, Quinones was found to be wanted on a warrant by Illinois State Police. The warrant was confirmed and the Quinones was taken into custody and transported to the police station where she was able to post the requisite bond.

July 15
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Lake and Route 83 at around 2:18 a.m., Akilah J. Thornton, 21, of Bellwood, was found to have a revoked driver’s license and a valid warrant out of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. She was charged with driving while license revoked and disobeying a traffic control signal. Thornton was processed on the warrant, posted the necessary bond, and was given a new court date.
