City Centre hosts Wednesday Night Block Party

From 5:30-8:30 p.m., families are invited to City Centre for a Wednesday Night Block Party with free live music and kid-friendly fun. Performing in City Centre Fountain Plaza this week is Wait for Morning. On stage at Elmhurst 255 North York Plaza location will be Atomic Shadows.

Saturday, June 16

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., young people are invited to the Elmhurst History Museum for “Days with My Dad: Memory Jars.” Participants will make a gift for dad or grandad to preserve sweet memories in a mason jar. A perfect intergenerational history activity for all ages. Museum will provide jars and craft supplies; participants need only bring personal objects and memories.

Thursday, June 21

From 7-9 p.m., the Spring Road Business Association presents Music at the Gazebo. This week, Scramble, a rhythm & blues and classic rock band will perform. Free and open to the public. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Picnics welcome but no alcohol is allowed. Info: springroad.com

 

Saturday, June 23

  • At 10:30 a.m., ages 8 through adult are invited to Lizzadro Museum for a 75-minute program on rocks and minerals led by geologist Sara Kurth. Learn to identify minerals through basic hands-on observation skills and hardness tests. Great for rockhounds and scouts, adult supervision required. Fee: $5 per person. Reservations required.   • At 1:30 p.m., kids from ages 8-16 are invited to the Lizzadro Museum for the ‘Rockin’ Jewelry for Kids’ program. Children can make their own gemstone jewelry to keep. Choose two different types of jewelry to make with stones from the Museum Shop and learn how to work with jeweler’s tools. Completes Girl Scout Jewelers badge. Fee $10 per person. Sunday, June 24

At 2 p.m., come to the Elmhurst College Mall to enjoy Vintage Base Ball played in fine Victorian fashion play by the original rules from 1858. Bring a picnic basket and lawn chairs. Admission is free. Info: elmhursthistory.org or (630) 833-1457

  • Widows or Widowers (WOW) meet every third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 537 S. York Road.
