Karl Zerfoss, 92

Karl Zerfoss, an Elmhurst resident for nearly 50 years, died peacefully November 15, 2016, at the Oakbrook Health Care Center at the age of 92. He had been ailing for the past four years.

Karl served as a T 5 radio operator in the 397th Regiment of the 100th Infantry Division during WWII. He was a graduate of the University of Chicago with a Master’s degree in economics. He spent 50 years in security analysis and investment management, including his time with Kemper Financial Services and The Burridge Group.

With a special interest in music, Karl played the piano all of his life, attended the symphony, chamber and early music series. He was also a member and officer of the Cliff Dwellers Arts Club. He joined the Downers Grove Friends Meeting in 2002, where he was an active member, serving a term as recording clerk.

Karl is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 66 years; two daughters, Katherine Ace and Marian (David) Kessler; and four grandchildren, Corinna Ace, Sarah, Rachel and Sam Kessler.

No date has yet been set for a memorial service.

Donations in Karl’s memory can be given to The Downers Grove Friends’ Meeting, the American Friends Service Committee, or to any organization that works for peace and justice. Information was provided by the family.

Bernard W. Webb

Bernard W. Webb, of Elmhurst passed away recently. The only son of Agnes and Walter Webb. Beloved husband of Ada; father of Chris (Sara); grandfather of Izabella; uncle to numerous nephews and nieces. Bernard did volunteer work for Reading to the Blind, Elmhurst Hospital, Marian Joy and Eucharistic Minister at Visitation Parish, Elmhurst. Born with an infectious sense of Irish wit and humor. Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Visitation Church. Entombment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Thomas E. Opolony, of Freeport, Ill., formerly of Villa Park, at the age of 70. Beloved husband of the late Christine nee Bishop; loving father of Kathleen Opolony, Dawn Opolony and Thomas J. (Heather) Opolony; fond brother of Carolyn (the late Richard) Gibson, Donna (Thomas) Stadermann, James (Susan) Opolony; dear uncle and great uncle of many; brother-in-law of Elizabeth Kulikowski and Kathy Bittler.
